Changes to catering program for evacuees this spring and summer

More restaurants in Kapuskasing will be helping to serve First Nation community members from the far north who are displaced because of flooding or forest fires this Spring and Summer. Evacuation Advisory Committee Chairman Pat Kennedy says local restaurant owners all wanted to help out either serving meals or snacks following a letter of interest that was sent out.

“How it has happened in the past is that we have one main caterer take care of three meals a day, and we had the snacks that were on a rotation between three other caterers,” he said. “So now we still have that rotation of the other caterers for the snacks but now what’s going to be different is that we are going to have a back up and a rotation for our main caterer of our evacuation program.”

He adds not only does it add more variety for those in town but it creates a back-up plan should an emergency come up.
