Construction plans for Government Road approved by Town Council

Construction plans for a section of government road have been approved by Kapuskasing Town Council. The more than $5.3 million project from Gurney Road to Service Master includes water main replacement and extending the three lanes of traffic. Public Works manager Eric Cote says a section of that road is also getting a new look.

“If you have noticed as you are driving up towards Walmart there is a fair sized hill which cuts your vision and coming back it is even worse because of the Gurney intersection,” he said. “So we are going to do a vertical realignment to try and make that line of sight better for people driving on the highway.”

Cote says there’s also new sidewalk coming too.

“On the north side of the highway,  all the way up to the limits of this construction, and eventually to Walmart in the next phases,” he said. “So that’s a nice edition and it’s good for our pedestrians. We quickly realized that pedestrians were walking up and down basically on the asphalt and we need to remedy that before there is an accident.”

Construction is expected to start in the Spring.
