Kapuskasing youth wellness hub gets funding approval

The youth wellness hub project in Kapuskasing received a boost following approval of a $35,000 grant from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund. Town councillor Sebastien Lessard says the town is finalizing the Youth Wellness Hub intern position and hopes to have someone hired by June. He adds the support for the program in the region has been growing positively.

“There’s going to be a new position within the Cochrane District Social Planning Board,” he said “It will be a regional supervisor to help our youth intern coordinate the youth wellness hub in our community.”

Lessard says the first task of the intern will be to speak to the youth this summer.

“Making sure we know what the youth are looking for so that’s going to be the engagement piece that will be happening  this summer,” he said. “And the plan for September is to start the activities that will be rolling out with the different partners in our community.”

Lessard says Kapuskasing will be the first community outside of Timmins to have a youth wellness hub. He adds that North East Ontario Family And Children’s Services have thrown its support behind the project by offering assistance.
