Civic Centre renovations come with hefty price tag

The Town of Kap is looking for help from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation to fix up the Civic Centre. A $500,000 grant application was sent in to help offset some of the hefty price tag of nearly $650,000. Mayor Dave Plourde says it’s time to fix up the exterior of the historic building that includes the brick and window repairs as well as the roof.

It’s work that has to be done and it’s the actual maintenance,” he said. It’s an old building and it has to be maintained. So it’s also an historical building so we have to do it in the right way. It’s one of those projects that has to be done this year.”

The Town’s portion of the project is over $173,000. Last summer the stairs and the railing were repaired just in time for the Kapuskasing 100th anniversary celebrations.
