Legion creating Path of Heroes in Kapuskasing

Kapuskasing’s Royal Canadian Legion is looking at a unique way to honor veterans in the area for all they do to serve. President Donna Todd says the Legion wants to start a ‘Path of Heroes project’ where banners of those vets would be displayed similar to Kap 100 this past year.

“This year we are looking at Legion Week to display hopefully 25 or more banners up around the community,” she said. “They’ll be displayed along McPherson Avenue into the Circle and long Riverside Drive.”

She adds that part of program would include a parade.

“One of our comrades is interested in this project,” she said. “Details will be available later on but we normally have the barbecue during the second week of September during Legion Week. We will be looking at doing our walk and honouring those during that.”

Todd says the banner program is something that’s been done both in Canada and the United States, and the Legion members thought it would be great to begin in the community.
