Town of Kap needing help with rising insurance premiums

The Town of Kap and area municipalities have had enough of rising insurance premiums. Administrator Guylain Baril is hopeful that a resolution from AMO will get the province to step in to see why premiums have continually gone up.

“And the government of Ontario had committed to taking a look at that and taking action on our rising insurance rates,” he said. “We haven’t seen those concrete actions we know we understand the pandemic has changed the priorities of the provincial government.”

Baril says the town has seen nearly a 30 per cent rise in premiums costing nearly $200,000.

“I keep saying I can’t imagine they’re going to keep going much higher because they’ve gone up by substantial increases in the last couple of negotiations,” he said. “But who knows we hear of neighbours that continue to go up so maybe we are not done with this.”
