Two Kapuskasing and Area anglers fined heavily, face suspensions for illegal fishing

Two Kapuskasing area men have been fined a combined close to $8,000 for illegal fishing on the Mattagami River north of the community in June of 2020. Natural Resources Ministry conservation officers saw the two men catching and keeping illegal limits of walleye. The officers said the men were trying to hide to hide their illegal activity.

A Kapuskasing man pled guilty to catching and keeping 12 walleye over the legal limit and received a $4,200 fine, a 10 year fishing suspension and won’t be allowed to possess any fishing gear for two years. He was also fined $500 for open liquor and dumping beer bottles into the river. A Moonbeam man was fined over $3,100 for catching and keeping 10 walleye over his limit and also must give up his fishing equipment.
