Timmins-James Bay MP calls convoy situation ‘international embarrassment’

Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus says the Freedom Convoy siege in downtown Ottawa should never have been allowed to go from protest to occupation.  The New Democrat says it’s not safe.

“The fact that we’re looking at the Emergencies Act to clear this out to me speaks to the absolute failure of what happened with police here in Ottawa, their failure to do their job;” he says, “the failure of the Premier to show leadership; the failure of the Prime Minister to unify the country. And now we’re having to take these measures just to get the nation’s capital back.”

Angus calls the situation “an international embarrassment”. He adds that what  happened in Ottawa and on the Ambassador Bridge in Windsor were each an opportunity for restraint and proper policing, which was not done.

“So now we’re in a situation where this thing has spiraled into this absurdist drama. We’ve got to get through this, we’ve got to get the streets back, we have to have the rule of law in this country, and we’ve got to keep people safe.”
