Planning on the Town of Kap’s budget is progressing well according to Administrator Guylain Baril. He says the finance committee will get an early look at the numbers next week with hopes to have a draft ready by the March council meeting. Baril adds that costs have continued to increase including the price of fuel to operate town vehicles and construction materials.
“We may be talking about an increase of the taxation income,” he said. “We really need to talk about what that really means. An increase of taxation income for the municipality doesn’t necessarily mean an increase to each individual taxpayer.”
He adds that the new construction of apartments, houses and businesses will help to make an impact on the bottom line.
“The taxation revenues of those new establishments not targeting them specifically,” he said. “But I mean it’s new dwellings in town so it could result in more tax revenue for the municipality to help offset those increase costs without necessarily increasing the tax bill of existing tax payers in Kap.”
