Town of Kap wants to hand off a section of Government Road back to the Province

The Town of Kap wants to give back some of Government Road to the Transportation Ministry. Mayor Dave Plourde says a section from McPherson to Bonnieview Road including the two bridges that have been repaired is not a town road.

“That most of the traffic on the section of highway is highway traffic and that it shouldn’t be a connecting link,” he said. “Every time we have a chance to meet with them, we talk to them about the uploading of that portion.”

He adds the town is looking at setting up a traffic count to get real numbers.

“I think it would be important to have our own idea of how much of that traffic is local and how much is in fact TransCanada Highway traffic,” he said. “At least have some ammunition when we go back to the ministry every time and have some numbers at our disposal to back up with what we think.”

Plourde says it was the first time in recent memory that Transportation Ministry refused to talk about taking over of any sections of highways.  He adds the town will continue to push the issue so that the section is removed off the town’s budget.
