More construction on Government Road this spring

More construction is ahead for Government Road in Kapuskasing this spring. The Town of Kap will proceed with work from Gurney Road to the Service Master location that includes widening the road to three lanes as well as replacing the culvert.

Mayor Dave Plourde says there are two stretches of the highway remaining to be completed including one from Service Master to Caron Street near Walmart and thru to Clear Lake Road.

“The maximum application amount we can get from the government is three million to continue the project as we have through town,” he said. “So adding three lanes and up to and past through Walmart. From Lilly Creek to Clear Lake Road, we’ve already done that stretch. The only part that has not seen any construction in all those years has been right now from Service Master all the way through to Clear Lake Road.”

Plourde says the province took away the stretch from Lilly Creek Bridge to Clear Lake Road because it wasn’t used by local traffic.

In the last two years, the Town of Kap has rebuilt Government Road from the Golf Course to Gurney Road with help from the province’s connecting link program.
