COVID-19 outbreak means increased restrictions at I.F. hospital

No visitors and no designated health care partners.  Those are two of the measures in effect as Anson General Hospital in Iroquois Falls deals with a COVID-19 outbreak.

MICS health group CEO Paul Chatelain says it was declared on the weekend.

“There’s only one patient who was affected, tested positive on Friday the 14th and we have one team member, staff member who also tested positive,” he explains.

Visitors and designated care partners are not allowed until the Porcupine Health Unit declares the outbreak over.

Hospital occupancy has been low lately, under a health ministry directive to ramp down services until the lockdown expires January 26th.

However, Chatelain points out that not all services have been cut back.

“Anson General Hospital is very safe to come to if you are acutely ill and you need heath care services, including ER,” he emphasizes. “So don’t hesitate.”
