Record jackpot for TADHF 50-50

The December 50-50 jackpot for the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation is a record for the monthly draw. With a deadline of midnight tonight to get a ticket, the jackpot is around $500,000. The previous record is $386,120.

Foundation executive director Jason Laneville says it jumped by $10,000 in a single hour this morning. And he’s confident he knows why.

At this time, at the end of the draw, I mean you’re looking at the jackpot. The jackpot number’s there and if you haven’t got a ticket, you certainly want to get in,” he remarks, “or you might even want to get a second ticket at this point, just because of the sheer numbers.”

The high amount of sales can also be attributed to Christmas gift giving.

Lanevill is thankful for the support in the 16 months the draw has been running.

“I’m looking at a $40-million equipment list in front of me. And if we didn’t have the success that we’re having from this stream of revenue, this gaming stream of revenue, we really wouldn’t be able to put a dent into it.”

The foundation’s mandate is to raise money for hospital equipment.  In its first 16 months, 50-50 has raised $4-million.

Ticket sales for the December 50-50 draw close a midnight. The draw is at 11:00am tomorrow.
