Potential COVID-19 exposure on Timmins to Toronto Air Canada flight last week

Passengers on a Timmins to Toronto Air Canada flight last Thursday night, December 23rd, are at high risk of exposure to COVID-19.

The Porcupine Health Unit says it was flight 8436 that left Victor M. Power Airport at 6:27pm.

Here is an excerpt from the PHU release about who was at the most risk, and how to react:

Those seated in rows 7 to 11 are advised to follow public health guidance:

  • Regardless of vaccination status, self-isolate immediately if symptoms develop and seek testing.
  • If you are not fully vaccinated:

o Immediately self-isolate 10 days from date of exposure and self-monitor for signs and symptoms*.

o Get tested on or after December 30, 2021

o Call the Porcupine Health Unit at 705-360-4819 or 1-800-461-1818 or your local public health unit.

  • If you are fully vaccinated (you have received 2 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days prior to exposure dates noted above), and do not have an immunocompromising condition:

o You are not required to self-isolate. Self-monitor for signs and symptoms* of COVID-19 for 10 days from potential exposure.

o Get tested on or after December 30, 2021

Other individuals on the flight are advised to:

  • Self-monitor for signs and symptoms* of COVID-19 for 10 days from potential exposure.
  • Self-isolate immediately if symptoms* develop and get tested. *Symptoms of COVID-19 include any of the following: fever, cough, loss of taste or smell, difficulty breathing, tiredness, and muscle aches and pain, nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea, abdominal pain, sore throat, runny nose, nasal congestion, decreased or lack of appetite, headache and pink eye
