Good trail conditions on the only open snowmobile routes in the North

You would be hard pressed to find a motel room between Cochrane and Hearst this week.  They’re all occupied by snowmobilers.

Cochrane Polar Bear Riders volunteer Jesse Buchman says the trails are open between Iroquois Falls and Mattice, and could be all the way to Hearst by the end of the week.

“There are trails open in Northwestern Ontario, like Thunder Bay region,” he adds, “but in our part of the province, the only section that’s open is Iroquois Falls to Hearst.”

Buchman adds that trail conditions are generally good. The status of the trail through Cochrane, for instance, is “green”.

“They are getting pretty beat up during the day, just because of the amount of traffic from Christmas sledders,” Buchman remarks. “Every night, the A trail in Cochrane is getting groomed so the next morning the sledders are enjoying some white ribbon.”

Buchman says the best way to stay on top of trail conditions is through the Polar Bear Riders Facebook page, or the OFSC interactive trail guide.
