NDP cries foul over free rapid COVID-19 tests not available in Northern Ontario

The North is being shut out, even though the Ford government says it’s making rapid testing kits for COVID-19 available free to all Ontarians.

The list of pick-up sites is composed of mostly the GTA, as well as Kingston and Peterborough.

Timmins NDP MPP Gilles Bisson objects, on behalf of his party.

“First of all, it’s unfair to us in Northern Ontario,” the veteran member of the legislature states, “because Omicron is here and in some communities, it’s actually quite high. And number 2, you know, you’ve got to treat this as a province-wide pandemic, not just a pandemic in the downtown Toronto area.”

Bisson points out that the Conservatives have members in northern ridings that would benefit from the testing kits.

“So it’s not as if there’s not a voice at the Cabinet table advocating  for these things, but for some reason, Mr. Ford is focused on vote-rich areas and doesn’t do what he has to do as a premier.”

Bisson adds that Ford is premier of all of Ontario, and needs to respond to the pandemic in a pan-Ontario way.
