Kap Flyers Teddy Bear toss game returns this Saturday

One of the hockey’s holiday traditions returns to the Sports Palace in Kapuskasing on Saturday. The Kapuskasing Flyers are hosting its annual Teddy Bear Toss game at 6 pm. Fans are encouraged to bring a new teddy bear or stuffed animal to the game that will be thrown on the ice during the second intermission. TD Canada Trust is sponsoring the Teddy Bear Toss, and Branch Manager Lucie Greene says the night is a lot of fun for everyone.

“It’s great to see the kids that have the teddy bears that toss them onto the ice and know that they are giving it to someone that needs it,” she said. “It’s absolutely a good feeling to see all those teddy bears flying onto the ice. It’s absolutely heartwarming.”

The Teddy Bear that’s closest to the centre dot wins a gift basket. There are also tickets being sold for a special Family Christmas Gift that will be drawn during the second intermission.

Greene says many of the proceeds from the night benefits the Kapuskasing Food Bank.

“And all of the proceeds that we collect at the 50-50 draw – the Flyers are giving it to us so we can donate it to the Food Bank,” she said. “We have been doing that for 10 years at the flyers games, it’s absolutely amazing.”
