Villeneuve Construction VP says improved contracts between contractors and province will help northern highways in winter

Improving contracts between the province and businesses to clear northern highways in the winter is something that the Vice President of Hearst-based Villeneuve Construction would like to see happen.  Mario Villeneuve admits the length of the contracts has gotten better, but more works needs to be done.

“The deployment of the snow plows is a big challenge to the contractors,” he said. “It is challenging to what I call the specifications of the Ministry and having the pressure of being literally fined of not deploying.”

Villeneuve supports Mushkegowuk-James Bay MPP Guy Bourgouin’s private members bill to reclassify Highways 11 and 17.

He adds the highways need to be upgraded to meet the increase traffic demands.

“I would like to see more two lanes, more passing lanes, paved shoulders just for us to facilitate the snow plow operating agreement,” he said.
