Friday is Radiothon Day supporting hospital projects in Kapuskasing and Hearst

Tomorrow is Radiothon day in the region. The 12-hour Community Cares Radiothon kicks off at 6 am, supporting a new operating room for Sensenbrenner Hospital in Kapuskasing.  Foundation chairman Gilbert Peters says it’s important that everyone support both the Radiothon and the foundation’s online 50-50 draw.

“Once we have our radiothon, the 50-50 will continue to raise funds to pay the balance that we are going to owe to finish the operating room,” he said. “And this is going to allow us to not have to go back to the people for the same project.”

At Notre Dame Hospital in Hearst, a 5,400 square foot expansion of the facility is being planned. Nurse Executive Leader Josee Mitron says due to a lack of space and the COVID-19 pandemic, the specialty and respirator clinics were moved to other facilities, including the nearby Family Health Team building.

“With the expansion it’s gonna be fabulous to have the specialty clinics come back and be joined with the hospital, easier for the community to be all at the same place,” she said. “Especially if you need labs, if you need an x-ray.”

The combined goal of the Radiothon is $80,000.
