Town of Kap looking to hire youth wellness hub coordinator with provincial assistance

The Town of Kap is asking for financial help from the province to hire a youth wellness hub coordinator.  A $35,000 grant application has been sent to the Northern Ontario Heritage fund to cover the internship. Councillor Sebastien Lessard says the application has cleared its first hurdle, and he’s hoping to get good news by the end of March.

“It is going to be a little bit like we had for the healthy community kids challenge,” he said. “Where we had a coordinator plan the events for three years, and that person did a phenomenal job to ensure our youth had some activities to do and learn about wellbeing.”

He adds that the youth wellness hub is part of the town’s larger plan to keep young people in the community.

“It just demonstrates to them that we care about them and we want them staying here,” he said. “And more than anything we want them to feel well in our communities so it’s very exciting.”

A youth wellness hub project is going well in Timmins and Kap Town Council is hoping for the same type of success in the community.
