Council to go ahead with 4.4 per cent pay hike

Kapuskasing Town Council voted itself a 4.4 per cent pay increase on Monday night. After reviewing the rates for other municipal councils in the region, council decided to recommend the largest hike in the last three years. Mayor Dave Plourde says this council decided to forgo the move the past three years.

I think it was a combination of just new council coming in trying to set an example,” he said. “And we think and what we fear is that there is too large of a gap that will have to be dealt with later.”

Plourde says it was time to do the right thing.

“Really just to keep up with the times,” he said. “I think we have done our share, and it’s just time to move on and allow the next council to come into it with the adequate pay.”
