Sensenbrenner Hospital looking for a second operating room

Sensenbrenner Hospital in Kapuskasing is looking to expand its surgical department. Chief Nursing Officer Lucie Lamontagne says a second operating room for the hospital would help decrease the risk to patients and offer better coverage to the neighbouring communities.

“We cover like Hearst, Cochrane. We are all like a network and we’ve covered in the last year 240 days for either one of the two hospitals here in Kap.

A new operating room includes a bed, lighting and a second anesthetic machine.

Lamontagne says a new OR would be helpful to the medical staff including the two surgeons.

“The flow would be better form patient to patient. So you use the one room and you get it cleaned and then you can go into the second room while its being cleaned. So it’s more efficient.”

The hospital foundation is hoping to raise just over $214,000 of the $400,000 required to carry out the project. The second operating room in Kapuskasing and the expansion of Notre Dame Hospital in Hearst are the two projects the Moose FM Community Cares Radiothon will be supporting next Friday from 6 am to 6 pm.
