The number of cases of Blastomycosis on Constance Lake First Nation continues to rise at a rapid rate. Chief Ramona Sutherland confirms 44 people are currently under investigation with 13 probable cases. She adds there’s now one confirmed with the lung infection.
“That person was transferred out today to other cities like Sault Ste Marie, North Bay, Timmins and Sudbury, as well as Ottawa Sick Kids Hospital,” she said.
She adds she’ll be contacting Indigenous Services Canada for funding assistance to help those who are ill to make it to and from medical appointments.
In order for people to commute back and forth to Hearst that service will be provided, as well as the paramedic services that exist in the community,” she said.
It’s about 42 kilometres between Hearst and Constance Lake First Nation.
