Kap Town Council to decide next week on pay increase

We should know by next week whether Kapuskasing Town Council will vote itself a 4.4 per cent pay increase. Councillors asked to further study what other municipal councils are doing in our region after tabling the largest increase in the last three years. Mayor Dave Plourde says council has done a great job in the past with this decision.

“So if you look back in the years past it’s been a zero, zero percent increase, you know we have always taken that process,” he said.

Plourde says it’s a good idea to get that review completed.

“I think there is a feeling now that we want to be compared to other places and see where we are at and see what has to happen,” he said.

Councillor and finance committee chairman Martin Credger proposed 4.4 per cent increase noting that employees’ salaries have gone up, but yet council and mayor’s pay hasn’t. Councillor Ken Munnoch called the increase reactionary and thought the number was way too high.
