The Porcupine Health Unit is cautiously celebrating a pandemic milestone. Vaccine program manager Kendra Brunet says the region has gone over 90% of people 12 and older being vaccinated.
It’s 90.2% for dose 1 and 84.4 for dose 2.
“We’ve actually surpassed the Ontario rate,” Brunet notes, “which is currently at 88.5 for first doses and for second doses, we are quickly approaching the provincial rate.” And that rate is 85.2%.
Brunet is pleased, but urges us to continue practicing safety measures because of increasing case numbers across the province.
“Especially in some of our northern health units around us, such as the Sudbury area, which has seen a huge increase in cases in the last few days and weeks.”
Brunet says PHU is still awaiting approval to vaccinate children between the ages of five and eleven.
