Former Kapuskasing mayor Al Spacek is the new chair of the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission.
He takes over from former Timmins mayor and current fire chief Tom Laughren, who was chairman for six years. Spacek, who served as Kapuskasing mayor for 12 years, says he’s honored to serve as chairman and continue the ONTC’s modernization efforts. He adds that the group is passionate about serving the needs of northern communities so they have a strong transportation network.
Before stepping down, Laughren helped the ONTC with bus service expansion in Northwestern Ontario, and began the agency’s response plan to the COVID-19 pandemic.
