Three Kapuskasing hunters pled guilty and received heavy fines for dangerous and illegal use of their guns.
Natural Resources Ministry were conducting a moose decoy operation on the Opasatika River last October when one of the hunters shot at the decoy with a high powered riffle while on a moving boat. Two of the hunters had similar high powered guns loaded in the same boat. The hunters pled guilty to several charges including illegal moose hunting without a license, firing a gun, and having a loaded gun in the boat.
The three received over $7,200 in combined fines. One hunter can’t hunt for two years while another won’t be able to hunt for one year.
