Not too early to start thinking about municipal politics

Even though municipal elections are still less than a year away, it’s not too early to start thinking about being a candidate. Town of Kap clerk Chantal Guillemette says you are invited to call or visit town hall to ask questions and about the entire process.

“Before they consider becoming a candidate cause you know some people might have an idea that they can change the world,” she said. “But there are rules and regulations that you have to know.”

Guillemette says nominations open next May and conclude in August.

“So they will have a candidate registration form to fill out and they also need to obtain 25 signatures to endorse their nomination,” she said. “And once that is all filed and it’s approved then they become on the list of official candidates.”

Once approved then the candidates get a nomination package that includes election financial information. Election day is Monday, October 24th of next year.
