Kap Town Council welcomes opportunity to be part of new committee for indigenous community

Members of Kap Town Council are looking forward to being part of a new committee for the indigenous community. Mayor Dave Plourde says the committee that would include a broad representation of the community, as well as indigenous leaders is long overdue.

“It’s to participate in a committee that would be formed by them and something that has to come by them with input to see how they see us participating, and what our role in that is,” he said. “I think it’s being a good liaison and part of it.”

The Unity in Action Committee made a presentation to council outlining several areas including the creation of cultural grounds where sacred fires and activities can take place. Plourde says he supports the request by that committee.

“The community could offer a number of different areas that would be best suited for that,” he said. “And we are eager to get on the planning in that.”
