Vaccinations necessary to use Kapuskasing recreation facilities

A new policy has been put in place to use a recreation facility in Kapuskasing. Town Council approved the move on Monday that requires anyone 12 and older to be fully vaccinated by November 30th. Mayor Dave Plourde says the town is just following other organizations and communities who have put similar ones in place.

“It’s across the board whether it’s the swimming pool, whether it’s the arena, whether even the auditorium for that matter,” he said. “Any facilities we operate you will have to be double vaccinated.”

During the council meeting, Recreation Director Marc Clavelle says the new policy will make it much easier to screen those that come in to the pool or the arena. Clavelle adds the staff been pleasantly surprised how supportive everyone has been when checking for vaccination status.

“It’s really nice to see that people understand,” Plourde said. “I think everyone is fed up and everyone is at a point where we just want to see this move on. We don’t want to see another repeat of what happened the last two years and this is our way out of it. And so they recognize that.”
