A coat drive organized by the Centre de Sante is back this fall, but it’s gone through a few changes. Community Wellness Agent Desiree Beaudette says the location of the coat drive has moved from the Centre De Sante offices to the Kapuskasing Food Bank on Sheppard in hopes of helping more people in need.
“For a whole month people will have four consecutive Thursdays from noon to 3:30 pm to come to the food bank to pick out their winter gear,” Beaudette said. “So it starts on October 21st and goes all the way up to November 11th.”
If you have any gently used winter clothing that you would like to donate, you can drop it off directly to North Star Linen and they will dry clean it in time for the coat drive. The deadline is October 14.
“We want to encourage people to go through their closet to see if they have any gently used winter gear including coats or ski pants that they’re willing to donate to those in need,” she said. “So either individuals or families.”
Beaudette says the generosity of the community is overwhelming as they’ve had hundreds of coats donated so others could keep warm during the winter.
