Kap Town Council approves vaccination policy for staff and employees

Kapuskasing Town Council approved a vaccination policy for the town staff and employees on Monday night. The new policy encourages all employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19 by November 30th. Mayor Dave Plourde says he believes that about 90 per cent of the town’s employees are vaccinated. He adds that council’s goal when the policy was developed was to have 100 per cent vaccination.

“Within the policy itself we know we are going to be dealing with education and I think that’s key for people who need information on vaccination and how it best suits them, I think it’s important,” he said.  “I think staff is going to be able to best manage the situation with now the tools we have put into place.”

Plourde says the November 30th deadline is important.

“So recognizing that there is a time span between vaccination that you have to wait to get your second dose and another 14 days after that,” he said. “It gives everyone ample time before the policy is in place to get what they have to get done.”

Under the new policy, those employees who decline vaccination for reasons other than medical exemption or religious beliefs will be subject to an educational session. All unvaccinated employees will be required to get two rapid COVID-19 tests done per week.
