Town of Kapuskasing deb slashed by $3 million

Kapuskasing Town Council continues to chop away at the town’s big deficit…three million dollars at a time.  Mayor Dave Plourde says the town has taken some major steps forward while continuing to take care of business.

“The fact that council has put forth a plan with staff to only spend what they have,” he said. “To accomplish what we have accomplished with a lot of the resurfacing of the roads and infrastructure work that needed to be done while taking full advantage of grants,” he said.

That includes fixing up Government Road, the Sports Palace, the two bridges west of Kapuskasing, and a new sidewalk for Riverside Park.

Plourde that process of reducing the debt began three years ago, and continues to move along well.

“If I can go back to 2018 our net debt was about the $12 million mark, 2019 $9 million and six million this year,” he said “So we have definitely seen a betterment of three million a year and you know what anticipating that we could possibly have a good year this year.”
