The President and CEO of Northern College says the Kapuskasing area will always have an important role with the institution. Dr. Audrey Penner spoke to Kapuskasing Town Council on Monday night. She says the old days of having campuses in communities is changing to better accessibility for online learning.

“So where they do it is important if they live at home,” she said. “How they do it is really quite flexible. We are getting into that and we’re always been a flexible learning institution but we are increasing that 10 fold over the next 10 years.”

Penner says students want flexible class time because of work or a family life.

“It’s not about you coming 8 to 4 every day and making sure you are there and accounted for by attendance,” she said. “It’s about what you learn. We are very focused on measuring on what people learn and how they improve.”
