Kapuskasing Rendezvous Weekend kicks off Friday

Kapuskasing’s 100th anniversary signature event, Rendezvous weekend kicks off tomorrow. The historic Civic Centre serves as a backdrop for many of the activities. Kap 100 chairman Julien Boucher says the Rendezvous setting is much different than the Lumberjack Festival that took place at Riverside Park.

“People are going to be able to have a good view of the bay, the mill,” he said. “I don’t know if people have noticed yet, but the town of Kap cleaned up the bay so we have a beautiful view there since last week.”

Opening night includes a parade around part of the circle beginning at 6:30 pm followed by the official ceremony, a large birthday cake and a celebration of residents who are turning 100. There are food and merchant vendors, live music all weekend long. Saturday’s list of activities include the finale of Kapuskasing’s Got Talent followed by the Fireworks and a Drone Show. There’s also an historic firetruck display, washer tournament, and a beer garden. Admission is a non-perishable food item for the Kapuskasing Food Bank.

“The parade will have over 24 or 25 vehicles that are going to be participating,” Boucher added.

There’s already been one slight change to the schedule as the Texas Rib truck won’t be here. We have a complete list of activities, and you can also visit the Kap 100 website.
