Town hopeful of a new welcome sign before end of 100th anniversary celebrations

There could still be a new welcome sign for Kapuskasing before the end of the 100th anniversary celebrations. Town Administrator Guylain Baril says they are finalizing the design plans and hope to have it out to a company in the coming weeks. After that it’s all in their hands.

“The variable is whether the contractors that may bid on the work will have the availability the rest of the season to build a sign,” he said. “We will give them the option to do it this year or to do it the spring next year.”

Baril says there’s been discussions with the new owner of the chamber of commerce building and the artist about what to do with the current sign and the bear. He adds everyone’s in agreement that the signs have done their part and need to come down. When that will happen is still uncertain.
