New swimming pool not on the horizon for Kapuskasing

A new swimming pool for Kapuskasing has been put on the shelf at least for now. That’s according to Town Administrator Guylain Baril. He says the pool proposal didn’t make the first cut of funding from the provincial government.

“And we are still in the pool of potential projects to be approved, but quite honestly this opportunity has come and past and the town is not looking at a pool replacement at this time,” he said.

He adds that all the work that was done is not lost.

“The work that we did back then with the design of the pool in front of the arena, we can still dust it off the shelf if there is another opportunity if there is another opportunity in the future to relook at that project,” he said.

The project consists of a 28,000 square foot aquatic centre complete with six-lane  swimming pool and a separate exercise area. It was valued at $22.7 million with the town to pay $6 million of that cost.
