Third COVID-19 shot offered by PHU

The Porcupine Health Unit is now offering third doses of COVID-19 vaccine to people at highest risk.

It must have been at least two months since your second injection… and you must have a referral form completed by your primary care provider.

Here are the criteria:

  • Transplants recipients (including solid organ transplant and hematopoietic  stem cell transplants)
  • Individuals receiving treatment with an anti-CD20 agent (e.g.  rituximab, ocrelizumab, ofatumumab), commonly used for conditions such as  multiplesclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, leukemias/lymphoma etc.,
  • Individuals receiving active treatment (chemotherapy, targeted therapies, immunotherapy) for malignant hematologic disorders (e.g. Acute  myeloid leukemia, chronic myeloid leukemia, acute lymphoblastic leukemia,  chronic lymphocytic leukemia).
  • The third dose should be offered at least two months after the second dose for the above  groups and exact timing should be decided with the treating provider in order to optimize  the immune response from the vaccine series and minimize delays in management of  their underlying condition. A referral form must be completed by the treating provider  or primary care provider, and can be accessed on the health unit website at:  phu.fyi/third-dose. Residents who attend a clinic without a completed Referral Form will  be turned away.

PHU is also planning third doses for residents of long term care.

FLIGHT EXPOSURE

Meanwhile, the health unit has also issued an alert about potential exposure to the virus on an Air Canada flight from Toronto to Timmins.  It left Toronto at 2:15 this past Sunday afternoon.  If you were in rows eight to 12, you’re asked to contact PHU immediately.  If you were sitting elsewhere on the plane, you should self-monitor for symptoms for ten days.
