Construction projects slowly wrapping up around Kapuskasing

As work wraps up on a stretch of highway 11 through Kapuskasing, town officials already have their eyes set towards the future and more projects. Adminstrator Guylain Baril says not only will there be work on a third stretch of the connecting link next summer, but a final segment must also be looked at.

“To connect to the end of the connecting link on the east side which is Clear Lake road,” he said. “So we are hoping in future years that we can get another grant to finish off that work completely and have all of highway 11 redone across town.”

Baril says one project moving along well is the work on the bridges west of town.

“What is left to do is almost the repaving of those joints, the heavy lifting and concrete work was done,” he said. “So it’s more on the surface, there’s some repainting to do and some railing to replace.”

Construction on Government Road has all but wrapped up with traffic lines being painted on Tuesday. Baril says the area looks much better with the fresh pavement and the filling in of the ditches with some grass seed added.

A new sidewalk is being installed on McPherson Avenue near Riverside Park thanks in part to a government grant.  It’s hoped that the project will be completed in a couple of weeks.
