NEOTech CEO not happy with CRTC decision regarding internet rates

The head of an internet company in Kapuskasing says a decision by the CRTC to change rates back to 2016 levels isn’t fair for the customer or the small independent companies. NEOTECH Kapuskasing CEO Francis Lamontagne (Fran-sis La-mo-tang) says the move is a step backwards that stops all the progress that was made.

“New rates were set, and small internet companies like NEOTech were happy about those rates,” he said. “They would have been able to accelerate investment in some rural areas.”

Lamontagne says a petition was sent to the federal government asking to reverse the decision and calling for an investigation into the telecommunications industry.

“It was sent the day after the decision was made late in May,” he said. “So the petition should be accepted at any time and we should see some development on that end. Obviously with the election coming up, there could be a few delays or changes.”
