Social media awareness campaign underway to urge people in Kap to get vaccinated

A public awareness campaign to urge people in Kapuskasing to get their COVID-19 vaccine hits social media today. The blitz is a partnership between the District Chamber of Commerce, Centre de Sante and the Kapuskasing Area Family Health Team. Chamber office manager Donna Todd says it was great seeing everyone pitching in to help.

“We felt that like having local people in the community from teenagers up to the elderly share a video that they got vaccinated for themselves, their family and their friends,” she said.

Todd says the support to participate in the video was great.

“A lot of teenagers came out to help us out as well as other dignitaries in the community,” she said. “Each of them have their own following so it will encourage others to come out and get the vaccine.”

The Kapuskasing area currently has among the lowest vaccine rates in the Porcupine Health Unit territory. Just over 67 per cent of people ages 12 and over have at least one dose, while 54 per cent are fully vaccinated. A pop-up Pfizer vaccination clinic is set for the Kapuskasing Food Bank next Thursday from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm. It’s available for those either needing a first or second shot.
