NOJHL teaming up with Health Units in north including PHU

The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League is teaming up with five northern health units including the one in our region to host a friendly vaccine playoff competition amongst the teams.

The goal of the event is to encourage youth and all eligible hockey fans to get their COVID-19 vaccination. Team rates will be posted starting this Wednesday. Porcupine Health Unit`s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Lianne Catton says the NOJHL players are receiving their vaccinations to get back on the ice safely and the Health Unit is hoping this can have a positive influence on community members.

NOJHL Commissioner Robert Mazzuca says their players are proud to be role models to the youth in the 12 communities that the league represents, and encourages everyone to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

The NOJHL has teams in Cochrane, Timmins and Hearst in the PHU`s territory.
