Kapuskasing-Opoly gives game players a chance to learn more about our town

The Model Town is proudly featured in a new board game. Outset Media has launched Kapuskasing-Opoly giving game buffs a chance to learn more about the town. Senior Vice President Jean-Paul Teskey says Kapuskasing-Opoly differs slightly from the traditional Monopoly board game.

“We could do it from the typical monopoly way and just fill it with street names which are kinda cool,” he said. “But we wanted to include businesses and other events like the Festival of Lights on here and the Lumberjack Heritage Festival.”

Tesky says one thing that’s not included is the famous jail game square.

“Parker Brothers told us that we couldn’t have a go to jail spot,” he said. “I don’t know why something proprietary but instead of that you are stuck in a traffic jam, which I know is not necessary as relative in Kapuskasing.”

Outset media has done various other versions of this game for other communities across the province like Toronto and Sarnia. Teskey says the company was thrilled to get help from a local resident to help with the background of Kapuskasing. You can buy the game online or at Walmart.
