Fingers crossed and sanitized, masks on: We could be out of restrictions next week

Don’t jump to conclusions, because there’s a big “if” attached.  But a week from now, we could be out of what is effectively a COVID-19 lockdown

With the exception of the coast, numbers in the Porcupine Health Unit are trending downward. That’s cause for optimism to medical officer of health Dr. Lianne Catton.

“If the trends continue the way they are, we are very hopeful that some of the restrictions, if not all, may be lifted next Friday,” she says. “We need to continue to take the steps needed every day in every community and assume that every interaction with someone you don’t live with outside your home is a potential COVID exposure. This will get us there faster, along with a vaccine.”

Twenty-four cases have been identified as caused by the highly aggressive Delta variant.  Twenty-three of them are in Timmins, the other in Iroquois Falls. Catton says many of them are linked to other cases, and some to significant outbreaks.
