Kapuskasing native and Timmins business owner vying for her photo to grace the cover of a fitness magazine

A Kapuskasing native and the co-owner of Discover Fitness/Discover Performance in Timmins is in the running to have her photo on the cover of “Muscle and Fitness Hers” magazine. The worldwide competition features a $20,000.00 prize.

Kate Durst doesn’t describe herself as a body builder. She prefers “amateur figure competitor”.

During the pandemic, she has been a personal trainer to people online.  That leads into why she entered the photo competition.  She says it’s leading her clients by example, and gets people excited.

“It shows that I’m still leading by example. So life’s not over,” she remarks. “I’m 47, 48. I’m still viable. I love wellness and your know what? Why not me?”

The money would be nice, too.  Durst says she would invest in the education of her two sons.  Then she would get into her truck, stop in places and give free fitness classes.”

“I just like sharing fitness. It sounds ridiculous, but I really like to coach people and have their interaction and enjoy the classes,” Durst explains. “And I’ve always wanted to travel and just offer (classes), not for charge.”
