Provincial health inspection team makes first visit to Porcupine Health Unit territory

The next two days will feature the first visit to our area of a group of local and provincial offences and bylaw officers, checking for COVID-19 compliance.

They’re being hosted by the Porcupine Health Unit.  Environmental health manager Suzanne Lajoie says they’ll drop into grocery and convenience stores and fast-food outlets, where’ll they offer guidance and education on keeping customers and staff safe from COVID-19.

“They’re essential stores that have been open for a while and continue to be open and provide services,” she explains, adding “It helps with compliance and it helps with maybe a different way to do something if they can’t figure out one of the requirements, to say how high does my plexiglass have to be, what’s the distancing, that kind of thing.”

This time, the inspection team will only be working in Timmins.  They’ll eventually get out to the rest of PHU territory.
