Town of Kap putting recently announced government grants to good use

There’s a new sidewalk coming to Riverside Park on McPherson Avenue. The town of Kap is using the funding recently announced by the Federal and Provincial governments to cover the $174,000 cost.  Town Administrator Guylain Baril says the entire stretch from Government Road to Riverside Drive needs to be done.

“One that’s used by a lot of people you know to access Riverside Park,” he said. “It’s right along the edge of our water park as well. We felt that this was a prime candidate for an upgrade. And that’s where we will be spending that amount of money.”

Baril says they won’t be waiting long to get the work done.

“We will go out for tendering of the project,” he said. “Once the prices come back in, we will work with the contractor to expedite the work as quickly as possible. But definitely, we will be doing the work this summer.”

Kapuskasing is not alone in receiving funding as communities from Smooth Rock Falls to Hearst each received $100,000.  Val Rita-Harty and Opasatika Economic Development Officer Alain Robichaud says the funding will help to fix the roof at town hall and the fire hall in Val Rita-Harty, as well as upgrade the water plant equipment in Opasatika.
