Average age for COVID-19 now ‘much younger,’ which is ‘not unexpected’ to MOH

During this third wave of the pandemic, the average age of people with COVID-19 in our region is considerably lower than in the first two waves.

Porcupine Health Unit medical officer of health Dr. Lianne Catton says it’s now 30 to 35 years old, but not unexpected.

“We know our older population is vaccinated. We have seen the impacts, the very positive impacts of vaccination in our long term care homes and retirement homes and in our older age groups across the province. So we know this is helping,” she states.

“This is why we’re really calling out to continue to vaccinate all age groups across our region, because we want to see that level of protection across all age groups.”

PHU is now vaccinating anyone 12 and older.
