PHU raises COVID-19 count, reveals potential exposure at homeless shelter

UPDATE AT 8:00pm: Seven more cases added.  Two are in what the PHU calls “the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Matheson” and five in Timmins.  Total now is 704.  Health unit does not report a number of current cases.

The Porcupine Health Unit region is getting closer to 700 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began.  Nine new cases reported today bring the total to 698.  The new ones are all in Timmins.

At the same time, PHU is revealing a potential exposure to anyone who was at the Living Space homeless shelter on Cedar St. N. last Saturday and Sunday, between 8:00am and 4:00pm both days.

Paramedics are testing all staff and any visitors to Living Space today (Sat., May 8) and again tomorrow between 11:00am and 4:00pm at the shelter.  No appointment is necessary.
