The Porcupine Health Unit has injected more than 3,900 COVID-19 vaccine doses into arms of people across its region. Medical officer of health Dr. Lianne Catton says just over 700 of them are second shots of Moderna vaccine.

As PHU announces public clinics over the next couple weeks, Catton says a lot depends on how many doses are in stock. “We need to recognize that the vaccine allocation does limit the opportunity for vaccine for the entire group at once,” she explains.

Elderly and people at risk are first in line for inoculation.

“But we don’t have the vaccine allocation at this point to have daily clinics and complete an entire group – for instance, the entire over-80 population across the region,” Catton reiterates.

Appointments will be accepted once clinic details are announced. Catton says unless the provincial booking system is ready, PHU will use the same one it uses for annual flu shots.
